Only Glovers Left Alive

Further to my review on Only Lovers Left Alive, I want to explore the influence of the film on next seasons runways. Obviously the film is very stylized, giving designers a lot to work with if they aspire to mimic the aesthetic and mood. Richness and decay are two very contrasting styles that work so well together, and we have seen it incarnate in different forms for years. The dark, luxurious fabrics have already been seen in Paul Smith's autumn collection, along with flowing textiles and moody prints. The whole laid back ideals of the film are projected in his runway, which predominantly features lounge sets and pajamas. Balenciaga's all white ensembles are a perfect homage to Eve's Tangier outfit. They even have a beautiful white biker jacket to perfectly emanate the style. Pair it with a pair of white jeans and Wayfarers and you'll have her look down to an art. The trend which I foresee to happen, would be summer gloves. There is nothing more elegant than a pair of hands dressed in long, white leather gloves in the sun light, clutching a slim line gin and tonic. Despite hoping that the bad manicure is covered and the regrets of the previous night does not show, sadly gloves only do so much. It is an unwritten rule that whites and summer go hand in hand. It makes sense, the white reflects the sun giving the skin an ethereal glow. Pale and interesting as they say. What I found most intriguing about the film, was the fact they were not all clad in white linen, (it may have looked good in Ibiza, last summer at an all 'white party' aside from the fact that you look the same as every other basic bitch) but instead they opt for leather and cotton, leather being an unusual choice for the time of year. Head to toe in white is most definitely in, but please no linen.
